The Dam is the main square of Amsterdam. On the Dam square you can find the National Monument, commemorating the Dutch war victims, and many monumental buildings, including the royal palace of Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is famous for its many canals and the typical canal houses. A good way to enjoy these is by foot, an even better way is on a canal cruise.

The 19th century monumental building of the Amsterdam Central Station, designed by architect P.J.H. Cuypers, is where most people enter Amsterdam. But even if you don’t plan a trip by train you should visit it.
The Rijksmuseum is designed by P.J.H. Cuypers, the same architect that designed Central Station – and it shows! The monumental building itself is worth a visit, but most visitors come to see the masterpieces of the Dutch golden age: paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Hals and their contemporaries. The museum has much more to offer, though!
